Back the commons.

Not donation — patronage. Three layers of support: patrons backing the work, grants backing specific phases, cooperative capital backing member-owned infrastructure.

§ 01 · Three layers

How the work gets funded.

Layer 01 · Patrons

Individuals backing the work.

Monthly or one-time patronage. Pay-what-you-can or pay-what-we-suggest. Funds the fixed costs of running the project in formation: research salaries, legal, travel to candidate sites, web and documentation infrastructure.

Layer 02 · Grants

Institutions backing specific phases.

Foundation grants, program grants, research grants. Each phase of development has a costed line; institutional support lands against a specific deliverable, not a general fund.

Layer 03 · Cooperative capital

Members backing their own infrastructure.

Share capital from Core Members. Member loans with cooperative terms. Patient capital from aligned financial cooperatives. This is the largest layer, and it begins at Phase 2.

§ 02 · Patronage intent

Say yes now. Activate later.

Intent, not a payment. No processor is wired yet — Stripe lands with the v2 portal (DECISIONS §31). The form captures who wants to back the work, at what tier, and roughly how much; the D1 patrons table is forward-compatible, so today's intent carries directly into tomorrow's checkout.

Tier · optional
Cadence · optional

THIS IS INTENT, NOT A PAYMENT. THE PORTAL THAT ACTIVATES PATRONAGE SHIPS IN V2 (LATE 2026).

Stripe wires up with the v2 portal; the D1 patrons table captures intent today and is forward-compatible, so signing on now doesn't require a second round of paperwork once checkout is live.

§ 03 · Institutional gifts

Foundation partners.

Funding prospectus on the open web — phase budget, milestone dates, reporting cadence, named-support options. Named support where the institution requests naming; anonymous support welcome.

Three pages: the ask, the phases, the reporting cadence. Open the page in your browser and use Save as PDF — the HTML is the source.

Anonymous support welcome. Named support (naming rights on a specific phase, building, or research cycle) considered case-by-case; decisions documented in the public decisions log.

§ 04 · Transparency

Every line, public.

We publish a public ledger of money in and money out. The ledger opens publicly at /support/transparency once there's meaningful volume. Architecture is ready; publication is deferred per decision D2.

In the meantime, the critical-path page tracks the seven legal items that gate Phase 2. Fundraising does not proceed past the founder circle until those resolve.
